An age statement is the youngest whisky in the bottle. Each dot is one Scotch single malt at its cheapest in-stock price; the line joins the median at each age. Pick a distillery to see its own age ladder and what each extra year costs within one range.
- Median cheapest price, 70cl Scotch single malt: £49.92 at 12 years (40 bottles), £112.50 at 18 (14) and £430 at 25 (10).
- In the six core ranges stocked at both 12 and 18 (Bowmore, Bunnahabhain, Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Jura, Old Pulteney), each extra year cost a median £10.75; Jura’s was £4.33, Bowmore’s £14.17.
- Older is not always dearer on the shelf: Jura 18 Year Old (£60) cost less than Jura 16 (£70), and Glenmorangie Lasanta 15 (£49.99) less than Quinta Ruban 14 (£59.90).

About this data: method, downloads and sources
How we did it
Bottles. Confirmed, in-stock 70cl Scotch single malts with an age statement at the UK retailers we check on 14 October 2026: 172 bottles from 5 retailers with 4 owners (Loch Fyne Whiskies and The Whisky Shop share an owner). Gift sets, multipacks, miniatures and other sizes are left out, and so are Japanese and other single malts, so like is compared with like. Each bottle counts once, at its cheapest in-stock shelf price; the CSV adds the cheapest delivered price for one bottle.
Medians. The middle price at each age. We report a median only where at least 5 bottles share the age; other ages show their range. Independent bottlings are included; the toggle shows distillery bottlings only.
Ladders. For each brand (or distillery), the cheapest core-range distillery bottling at each age: no independent bottler, and no limited edition, single cask, cask strength or special-release name. A ladder needs at least three ages. The cost of each extra year is the price difference between two rungs divided by the years between them. Rungs can differ in cask and strength as well as age, as core ranges do.
What this is not. These are shopping prices on one day: what an older bottle costs on the shelf now compared with a younger one. They say nothing about what any bottle will be worth later. Prices change daily, and we check 5 UK retailers, not every shop.
