The best sherry cask whisky under £75

Sherry-matured and sherry-finished whiskies under £75 at UK retailers, from Tamdhu to Redbreast, with the lowest current price for each.

For sherry cask whisky under £75, the evidence-led picks are Tamdhu 12 Year Old for full sherry maturation, Aberlour 12 Year Old for a sherry finish and Redbreast Lustau for an Irish single pot still take. We compared the 32 full-size sherry-cask bottles priced under £75 at the UK retailers we check on 14 October 2026; 17 of them sat under £50 before delivery.

Our links go straight to the retailer. We do not earn a commission from them.

How we chose

These are bottles in stock and in budget, not our favourites. We preferred bottles sold by more than one independently owned retailer, and we grouped the picks by what the label actually says about the cask. We have not tasted them for this guide.

A sherry tag on this site is either explicit, from the bottle’s name or label, or derived from a retailer’s description. We say which applies, and we only call a whisky fully sherry-matured where the label states the maturation. Prices exclude delivery unless the offer says otherwise; the live figure carries its retailer and check time.

For what a sherry cask is and what it does, see Whiskipedia’s guide to sherry casks. Our sherry-cask selection lists every bottle we track, at all budgets.

Fully sherry-matured

Full maturation means the whisky spent its whole maturation in sherry casks rather than finishing in one. Labels do not always say which applies, so this section is short by design.

Tamdhu 12 Year Old Sherry Cask Matured Single Malt Whisky: £46.99 at DrinkSupermarket.com. A 12-year-old Speyside single malt at 43% ABV whose name states the maturation outright. Tamdhu’s own description refers to first- and second-fill oloroso casks; we treat that as a producer description rather than something we have verified. Most of the retailers we check stock it, so there is a real spread of offers to compare.

Benromach 12 Year Old, Sherry Cask Matured: £46.99 at Tyndrum Whisky. A 12-year-old single malt at 46% ABV, again with the maturation in the name. A handful of the shops we check stock it. We do not hold a region tag for this bottle, so the bottle page is a better guide than our region filters.

The Hearach Oloroso Cask Matured: £72.50 at Tyndrum Whisky. A 70cl bottling at 46% ABV whose label states oloroso cask maturation, with no age statement on the listing. Its shelf price sits inside the budget, but delivery takes a one-bottle order over £75, so compare the delivered total.

Sherry finishes

A finish is a final period in a sherry cask after maturation elsewhere. It is a different production choice from full maturation, not a lesser one; the label wording is what separates them.

Aberlour 12 Year Old: £42.95 at Hard To Find Whisky. A 12-year-old Speyside single malt at 40% ABV. Its sherry tag covers more than one cask type and a finish, so do not read it as full sherry maturation. Several retailers stock it, and it sat under £50 at our check.

Laphroaig 10 Year Old Sherry Oak Finish: £49.95 at Hard To Find Whisky. A 10-year-old Islay single malt at 48% ABV whose name states the finish. It is peated, as Laphroaig’s own-name range usually is, so it suits someone who wants smoke and sherry in the same glass rather than a gentle introduction to either.

Glenmorangie 12 Year Palo Cortado Cask Whisky: £69.99 at DrinkSupermarket.com. A 12-year-old single malt at 46% ABV whose label names the sherry type, palo cortado, as a cask finish. A few of the shops we check stock it, and it sits near the top of the budget.

Irish and world sherry casks

Sherry casks are not a Scotch monopoly. These picks come from Ireland and the USA, and the same rules apply: we say what the bottle states and no more.

Bushmills Black Bush Irish Whiskey: £32.99 at DrinkSupermarket.com. A 70cl Irish blend at 40% ABV with an oloroso tag derived from catalogue information rather than a label statement. Only one retailer we check currently stocks it, so there is no cross-shop comparison yet.

Redbreast Lustau: £64.99 at DrinkSupermarket.com. A 70cl single pot still Irish whiskey at 46% ABV from the Redbreast range, with an explicit oloroso finish. Several of the shops we check stock it, and the spread between the lowest and dearest offer is wide enough to make the comparison worth the click.

Westland Sherry Wood Single Malt Whiskey: £69.99 at DrinkSupermarket.com. An American single malt whiskey at 46% ABV whose label states sherry wood, with oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks tagged explicitly. Two of the retailers we check stock it.

If you like Macallan

Macallan is the name many buyers use as shorthand for sherry cask whisky, but the standard Macallan 12 Year Old bottlings have no current in-stock offer at the retailers we check, so we cannot include them here. For sherried alternatives in a similar style, see our guide to whiskies like Macallan.

Some much-discussed sherry-led names sit outside this budget or without a current price at the shops we check, including GlenDronach 18 Year Old and Aberlour A’bunadh. The sherry-cask selection shows everything we track, with live prices, so an out-of-budget bottle is easy to spot before you set your heart on it.

How we chose: check date and coverage

We compared in-stock offers from DrinkSupermarket.com, Hard To Find Whisky, Loch Fyne Whiskies, The Whisky Shop and Tyndrum Whisky in our 14 October 2026 catalogue check. Loch Fyne Whiskies and The Whisky Shop count as one owner. Last checked 14 October 2026. Prices move daily; the live table on each bottle page is current, and the retailer’s checkout price is the one that counts. Read how we compare prices.

Questions

Is a sherry finish as good as full sherry maturation?
They are different things rather than better and worse. A finish is a final period in a sherry cask after maturing in other wood; full maturation means the whole time was spent in sherry casks. Neither is a quality grade, and labels do not always say which applies. We only call a whisky fully sherry-matured when its label does.
Is there sherry in sherry cask whisky?
No sherry is added. Scotch may contain nothing beyond the spirit, water and plain caramel colouring (Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009, regulation 3). The cask previously held sherry, and the whisky takes flavour from the wood. Whiskipedia’s guide to sherry casks covers what the cask really contributes.
Oloroso or PX: which is sweeter?
Pedro Ximénez (PX) casks held a very sweet sherry and are usually used for a finish; oloroso is a dry sherry. How sweet the whisky tastes still depends on the cask and the time spent in it. We tag the sherry type only where the bottle states it; see the sherry-cask selection.
