The best whisky under £30: UK prices

Blends, bourbon, Irish whiskey and the few single malts under £30 at UK retailers, compared on shelf price and delivered price.

Our links go straight to the retailer. We do not earn a commission from them.

The best whisky under £30 depends on the style you want: Robert Burns Blend for a blended Scotch, Jim Beam for bourbon and Old Pulteney Harbour for a single malt. Most bottles in this band are blends, bourbon or Irish whiskey. We compared full-size bottles in stock at the UK retailers we check on 14 October 2026.

How we chose

These are bottles in stock and in budget, not our favourites. We included 70cl and 1L bottles, preferred those sold by at least two independently owned retailers and grouped them by style. Miniatures and other small formats are excluded. The bottle facts come from labels and catalogue records; we have not tasted them for this guide.

Shelf price is only the starting point. Use the live price with each pick to compare the current offer, check time and delivery assumption, or see the full under-£30 list.

Blended Scotch

Blended Scotch combines single malt and single grain whisky. At this budget, the useful comparison is often between shops selling the same bottle rather than between long lists of unfamiliar labels. See the wider blended whisky selection for other budgets.

Johnnie Walker Red Label — £22.99 at DrinkSupermarket.com. A 70cl blended Scotch with no age statement, stocked by several retailers. That gives you more than one offer to compare, although delivery still needs adding.

Robert Burns Blend — £23.99 at Tyndrum Whisky. Another 70cl blended Scotch without an age statement. It is widely stocked among the retailers we check, so it is a useful like-for-like price comparison.

Whyte & Mackay Blended Scotch Whisky — £22.69 at DrinkSupermarket.com. A 70cl blend with no age statement. Only one retailer we check currently has it in stock, so there is no cross-shop comparison yet.

Bourbon and American

Bourbon is American whiskey, and not every American whiskey is bourbon. These three are full-size bourbons; compare their labels and live offers rather than treating them as interchangeable with Scotch. The bourbon list includes the rest of the range we track.

Jim Beam — £18.99 at DrinkSupermarket.com. A 70cl bourbon with no age statement in our catalogue. Several shops stock it, making the shelf-price and delivery comparison worthwhile.

Four Roses Bourbon — £27.09 at DrinkSupermarket.com. A 70cl bourbon without an age statement. Its live offers vary between retailers, so check the delivered total as well as the bottle price.

Maker’s Mark Bourbon — £28.49 at DrinkSupermarket.com. A 70cl Kentucky straight bourbon with several offers to compare. It sits near the top of this budget before delivery.

Irish

The Irish picks here are blended whiskeys rather than single malts. They belong in a general under-£30 guide, but should not be confused with the single malt choice below. More bottles are listed on our Irish whiskey page.

Kilbeggan Traditional — £24.00 at Loch Fyne Whiskies. A 70cl blended Irish whiskey with no age statement and offers from several retailers.

Slane Irish Whiskey — £24.60 at Tyndrum Whisky. A 70cl blend, again without an age statement. It is widely stocked among the shops we check, so compare the complete delivered price.

Tullamore DEW — £24.95 at Hard To Find Whisky. A 70cl Irish blend with no age statement. Its shelf-price position does not by itself settle which retailer has the lower delivered total.

Single malts under £30

Old Pulteney Harbour was the only full-size single malt under £30 in our 14 October 2026 check. That makes this a short section by necessity, not an attempt to manufacture a longer ranking. Blended malts sit just above the band, while other single malts may enter it when prices change.

Old Pulteney Harbour — £27.00 at Loch Fyne Whiskies. A 70cl Highland single malt without an age statement. Several retailers stock it, but some offers are above £30 even though the live in-budget offer qualifies. Compare like with like on the bottle page.

What you give up under £30

Age statements are uncommon here, and a bottle without one is not automatically worse. It simply gives you less information about the youngest whisky in the blend or batch. Scotch may also contain plain caramel colouring; Whiskipedia explains spirit caramel and what its presence does and does not tell you.

Tax also takes a substantial share of a low-priced bottle. From 1 February 2026, duty on a 70cl bottle at 40% ABV is £9.52 before VAT. That does not tell you whether a bottle is good, but it explains why long age statements and elaborate packaging are unlikely at this shelf price.

Delivery: why the delivered price matters most here

No single-bottle order in this band qualified for free standard delivery in our check. Published UK mainland charges were £4.50–£5.99 on 23 October 2026, a significant addition to a bottle under £30. The retailer with the lower shelf price can therefore lose its advantage once delivery is included.

Each live price shows the relevant delivery status. Check the bottle page for the one-bottle delivered comparison, and read how we compare prices for the assumptions. Highlands, islands and Northern Ireland may have different charges.

FAQs

Can you get a good single malt for under £30?

Sometimes, but choice at the specialists we check is narrow. Old Pulteney Harbour was the only full-size example in budget on 14 October 2026. Supermarket promotions may bring others below the threshold, but we do not track those offers here. Compare the wider single malt selection if you can raise your budget.

Is cheap whisky worse?

Not necessarily. Price reflects age, casks, packaging and brand position as well as the liquid. Under £30, many bottles have no age statement, and Scotch may contain plain caramel colouring. Those are facts to weigh, not a quality verdict. We have not tasted these bottles for this guide, so we do not rank them by flavour.

Does the price include delivery?

The main live figure is the shelf price, with delivery status shown alongside it. Bottle pages also compare the delivered price for one bottle using UK mainland standard-service assumptions. On 23 October 2026, published charges below the free-delivery thresholds were £4.50–£5.99 at the retailers we check. Exclusions and regional differences can apply.

How we chose: check date and coverage

We compared in-stock offers from DrinkSupermarket.com, Hard To Find Whisky, Loch Fyne Whiskies, The Whisky Shop and Tyndrum Whisky in our 14 October 2026 catalogue check. Loch Fyne Whiskies and The Whisky Shop count as one owner. Prices and stock change; the live table on each bottle page is current, and the retailer’s checkout price is the one that counts.
